1971 TO PRESENT
From humble beginnings AAA Landscape has steadily grown into an industry leading company.
1971

Bob is honorably discharged from Military Service and works as a landscape laborer for $1.25/hr in Phoenix. He discovers a love for the work. At night he studies his father’s library of books about plants.
1974
“I envision one day being the largest landscape contractor beautifying the world.”
Robert Underwood, 1974

Bob borrows a pickup truck from his uncle and $1000 from his mother to start AAA Landscape. 6 months later, he asks his brother Rick to be his partner, because Rick has his own pickup.
1976

AAA Landscape gets its first office—a single room with no bathroom. They also purchase the first company truck.
1978

Company expands from Tucson into the Phoenix marketplace. They purchase an old farmhouse as their second office.
1980
$1M in revenue reached.
1981

Nursery in Phoenix is purchased. Company begins growing plants from seed, gaining intimate knowledge of plant lifecycles and best practices.
1985

On the road to growth, AAA diversifies into municipal work.
Richard Underwood secures a general engineering license.
1986

AAA Landscape wins its first multi-million dollar contract for Hyatt destination resort (Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale, AZ).
1987
$5M revenue reached.
Early 90’s
The Company expands into full-service landscape business, focusing on Landscape Management as well as Construction services.
1990

Company works with large master planners and developers and provides both Landscape Management and Construction services (Mountain Park Ranch, Ahwatukee).
1992
AAA Landscape is the recipient of Heritage Award from the Association of Landscape Contractors of America for the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum Display Garden in Tucson, Arizona.
1993

AAA Landscape is the recipient of Grand Award from the Association of Landscape Contractors of America for major resort community in Tucson (Star Pass Resort, AZ).
1995
$10M revenue reached.
1997

The Company creates partnerships to build a town starting with premier planned community Rancho Sahuarita, Southern Arizona (the largest sustainable town to date).
1998
The Company is recognized as leader in master planned communities and for its turn-key Construction to Management capabilities.

Tucson builds new office to support major growth.
1999
AAA Landscape makes large donation to the Make-a-Wish Foundation by beautifying the grounds of their headquarters.
2000
AAA diversifies again into military installation (Fort Hauchuca in Sierra Vista) and develops strong foundation with Sundt Inc., recognized world-wide as a construction expert.

In-house training program established to promote highest level of skilled personnel in the industry.

Completion of premier N. Tucson golf community Construction to Landscape Management project; and home of the first PGA Match Play Championship (Dove Mountain Golf Community, Tucson).
2003

Decade Award presented to AAA Landscape for ten years of consistent excellence and partnership (Star Pass Resort, Tucson).
AAA’s Phoenix operation expands their headquarters, incorporating the architectural integrity of its original farmhouse, while building a state-of-the-art facility.
2005
AAA embraces the 21st century, upgrading technology company-wide.

Pinnacle Award by Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce for Large Business of the Year
2007
$45M in revenue reached.
Richard Underwood (co-owner) is accepted into SALC, Southern Arizona Leadership Council.
2008
Looking to expand and diversify into new markets, Richard obtains a B-01 General Commercial Contractors license for AAA Landscape.

AAA Landscape receives a Best Sustainable Landscape Maintenance Practices Award from the Arizona Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
AAA gives back to the community and its client base with continuing education opportunities.

2009
2011

Opened office in San Antonio, TX.
2012
The Company expands into full-service in San Antonio focusing on landscape management as well as construction.
